Carbon Farming potential in Nicaragua

According to the FAO, Nicaragua has 3.275 million hectares (27%) of land consisting of pastureland and meadows. Since 2001, it has lost about 1.28 million hectares of land that was once covered by 30% or greater tree cover, and 426,600 hectares (21%) of its primary forests has been destroyed. On average Nicaragua is losing approximately 26,600 hectares of primary forest each year and 75,000 hectares of land with tree cover 30% or greater.

Nicaragua has enough pastureland available to potentially sequester up to 81.75 million tonnes of CO2/year through reforestation and agroforestry carbon farming. That's the equivalent of taking 17 million cars off the road in the USA.
